The Last Four Years

A lot can happen in four years, and since that’s how long this blog was sleeping, I feel I should at least give you the highlights.

We added another kiddo the clan. Little Man was born in our living room to the cheers and celebration of his six sisters and one brother. We were so surprised to get another boy. I didn’t know I could make those anymore! He is now a precocious and very busy toddler and the delight of our home.

Nine months after Little Man joined our family, The Bookworm spread her wings and flew the coop. She joined FriendShips and is now in Israel touring, serving, and blossoming into an amazing and beautiful young woman. I am so proud of her, though I miss her dearly every single day. This is the last picture I have of all of us together from Easter of last year.

I now have two teens in the house – The Boy and The Dancing Queen are almost all grown up, with jobs and social schedules and really fun school (we homeschool through high school and I really love all the cool things they study). The Princess is an almost-teen, and The Munchkin and The Fraggle are getting so big so fast.

The Blessing is a thriving six year old. She has lived up to her blog nickname, and is nothing less than a blessing. Down syndrome doesn’t slow this girl down one bit. And although her speech is still a little hard to understand, she has no problem with communicating her desires. She is clever and sweet and funny.

And, most recently, we are currently embroiled in a huge home remodel that has left me pretty darn discombobulated. We have everything that normally would be in the living room, kitchen, or master bathroom out on the back deck. I am cooking for this huge family in a tiny little corner of what remains of our kitchen while The Man is replacing flooring, rewiring switches and plug-ins, rerouting plumbing, installing new cabinets, and pretty much being awesome everyday! It’s been quite the ordeal, but my dream house is starting to emerge, so I can deal with it. The worst part has been that the yarn stash has been relegated to huge black trash bags in my bedroom. I can’t find anything. Good thing I have my sweater to work on in the meantime.

I have been knitting pretty regularly through it all, but spinning has taken a big hit.  I just don’t have time for it during the day, what with homeschooling and babies and everything, and at night I’m just too pooped. But the knitting just keeps going and I’ve got socks and sweaters and baby things and hats and stuffed toys strewn all around my house to prove it!

So, that pretty much sums it up. Life is busy and sweet and full and challenging and good.

What is the biggest highlight from your last four years?
